I R Laws - How are they affecting you?
Published 1 year, 8 months ago in My life.I am doing some research into the nature of the IR laws and their implications from either employees or employers… all opinions invited.
I am specifically interested to hear personal views on how this workplace legislation has benefited or hindered you personally. I would appreciate any comments immensely.
THANK YOU!

Business wants a workforce that can be hired and fired with minimal fuss, cost exactly the same 24/7 and not have the large overhead commitments to effect profits. It is simply recreating IR with a business bias so profit first, workforce last.
Yes I am sure they have affected many different workplace situations.
As I have experienced being in and out of jobs the past 2 yrs.
Have to teach and repair guitars for a living and thats not happening at all.

I’m fortunate that they havn’t affected me personally, so far, but I know a few that been negatively impacted by them.
1.The SMS to say your fired, this was after the employee queried as to why the employer had not been paying anyone’s superannuation.
2. Being forced onto 10 hour shifts, 6 days a week & if your not happy with that your demoted into the crap job briefly, then dismissed.
3. Being put off as permanent staff & rehired as a casual.
We have returned to the dark ages with these laws. The rights & consessions our forebears fought so hard to obtain are now being eroded away. Workers right have to be protected, hopefully people will remember this at election time and stand up to the bastards who think the employees of this nation are little more than disposable machine that can be used & abused to suit them.
I disagreed with the previous unfair dismissal laws, but the new laws are way too far in favour of the employer. My next EBA, by law, cannot have most of the conditions I have been covered by for the past 25 years. Conditions Employer and employee are both happy with. Conditions that have seen a marked improvement in productivity, larger profits to the busuness and happy, well cared for employees. By law, this arrangement can no longer exist. We wait with trepidation for the conditions in our next EBA. There are work-arounds, but it only takes one manager with a grudge in a position of power to ruin the lives of hundreds.
